Summary
Mugu, though the richest in nature and vegetation is the poorest district of Nepal having the life expectancy only to age 44 and having the literacy rate 26 percent. The women''''s literacy rate is only 9 percent. There is no electricity even in district headquarter and road linkage. Only possibility to reach Mugu is unreliable and expensive flight from Surkhet and Nepalgunj or three day trekking from Jumla. The Karnali highway from Surkhet to Jumla is also not reliable though started recently.
The biggest and most beautiful lake Rara, Changkheli Himal, Chhayanath, Chuchimara lekh and Mugu Karnali River are some of the famous mountains and attraction of the region. It is rich in different types of vegetation. Around fifty thousand people of the district depend on the subsidized rice of World Food Program. The life of children and women is so hard that is not comparable with the life of the people of other parts of Nepal. Those who reach there for the first time are compelled to think that "whether it is a part of Nepal?
